Delusions of the Mind

Do you journal? I journal a lot but have added art journaling to my repertoire since January. I have gone from a small Moleskine to a bigger journal format – using both the Strathmore Visual Journal, Dylusions journal and the Canson XL Mixed Media Pad. I like the Strathmore and so far haven’t had any problems with the pages in regards to bleed through, the Dylusions journal lots of bleed through and seepage into other pages that are connected through the signatures. The Canson XL, same thing no problems at all with it; however, both the Canson and the Strathmore are spiral bound and I really like having the option to do a two page spread. I think I’m going to try the Canson Mixed Media journal which is not spiral bound and see if I have any of the same problems as the Dylusions. I heard if you tape the center of the Dylusions you won’t have bleed through but then you will have a space in a two page spread. If anyone has idea I would love to hear them. Here is a two page spread I did in the Dylusions (the previous post of the face was in Strathmore). The pictures didn’t come out so great, I tried twice and think I’ll drag out my screens to see if I get a better picture, I also think the angle has something to do with it.

I’m not quite sure if it is finished. I am thinking she needs a little more, maybe outlining. If I do more I’ll update. Namaste!

Getting To Know Others on Facebook

Join Groups That Interest You!

One group I joined on Facebook is an art group called Mixing it Up Every Day. One of the things they do is blog hops. They usually have a theme and you list other members websites in your post. This drives others to your site and also drives traffic to the members pages. This helps us get to know each other better and see our various talents.

.
Having said that, if you are not in our group, please feel free to leave a comment anyway and come join us over on Facebook. We would love to get to know you better too.

One of the things I love to do is make envelopes. I send out Happy Mail for a group I am in once a week and this will be ending in another two weeks. Here are a few that I have done:

Birds of Happiness was real fun to make. I used molding paste on stencils and then painted the white paste with acrylic. Afterwards I tried adding paint to the paste and that works beautifully.

Blessings was just done this week. I am in love with it. I think I have really progressed since first starting the last week in January. I used Unity’s stamp Every Breath. Did you notice a difference between the stamp on their site and mine? Go ahead, click the link, check it out. My girl is facing the other way. I wanted her facing the heart/address area of the envelope. I thought the saying was absolutely perfect for an envelope that might be used for Happy Mail.

Another thing I love to do is to take part in swaps. All have themes and it is really fun to go beyond my comfort zone and create something for someone else. I have received some really gorgeous handmade items.

Here are a few I am proud of that I made.

This was for a swap in the Facebook group Artful Mail Groupies (AMG).

For the same group AMG. I tend to do a lot of swaps with this group as they are a great bunch of women and the admins. are really on the ball when it comes to taking care of the swaps and everyone in the group.

On the Wings of Fluttery Things

On the Wings of Fluttery Things

I had so much fun doing this swap for The Enchanted Imaginarium. It was done on mixed media paper, using watercolor for the sky, clouds, path and landscape, adding different stamps and colored in with Faber-Castell Pitt pens. The dragon was made by using a stencil with modeling paste and then painted. The dragon was painted using Jacquard Lumiere Metallic Acrylic paint for the open breast, under the wings and the red eyes and tongue, the rest of it was done with Amsterdam acrylics.

I hope you have enjoyed!

Experiment in B&W

I thought I would give black and white a try in my new Strathmore Toned Gray journal.

Believe

Believe

Materials I used are:

Strathmore Toned Gray Sketch Paper.
The black/grey background is Stencil Girl’s July Club stamp; white coral, The Crafter’s Workshop Branches Revised; butterflies, are from Recollections.
Daler & Rowney F&W Acrylic InkArtist Loft Dual Tip Art Markers, in Cool Grey.
Sharpie Mean Streak – White
Gelly Roll – White
Faber Castell – White
Acrylic paint – White

The Strathmore paper held up really well using both paints and markers. I really was quite pleased with it and had no frustration at all with paper shredding, fraying, or curling. I was really hesitant to buy the Artist Loft markers because I haven’t had any luck with the quality of Artist Loft supplies. However, I have been searching high and low for a set of grey markers and these were the only ones I found. I was pleasantly surprised as all the eleven colors and the 900 which is more towards a black, performed wonderfully.

Mean Streak was a dream to work with but the tip was to big for the finer details. When it dried I had no problem using other media on top of it. Diluting white acrylic paint with water  using a very fine paint brush and my Faber-Castell worked the best for very fine detailing.

Sorry no links for the Recollections, I couldn’t find these products anywhere.

This was my first attempt at a black and white spread and it was really fun to do.

I hope you enjoy!

Hugs!!

Namaste!

Sharing Beauty

What do flowers and doors have in common? Me! I love having flowers around me and I always have a bunch planted along our walkway and in pots on my front porch. My front door has a hanging metal planter with fake flowers that I change throughout the season.

First let me share a beautiful bouquet of flowers that my lovely daughter-in-law Jill sent us for New Years.

As mentioned in earlier posts I am doing the Documented Life Project and the first week challenge was photograph, paint, sketch your front door.

DLPWk1Doorclosed

I didn’t place it on the first week’s tip-in, instead it is on the actual first page as it is a door to myself as well as my home. I incorporated flowers since I always have flowers coming into my house. We have a wonderful purple butterfly bush which attracts a lot of butterflies so I have one on my page. The little blue oval actually hangs on my porch railing, a cardinal with ‘welcome’ underneath. It has been hanging for a very long time and extremely faded. I think this year she needs an update. Above the door says ‘my favorite place.’ I assimilated my OLW Fearless by including a saying by Louisa May Alcott as my door mat,

I am not afraid

of storms for I am

learning to sail my ship

DLPWk1Door

Open the door and it says ‘this is your time make it meaningful.’ I journaled on the door about trying to keep planted flowers in the front but the squirrels like to dig them up and plant their acorns. This winter I planted pansies and they  dug up every single one. I would come out and there in a line my pansies would by laying. I would remove their acorns and replant only to have them dug up again. Either they don’t like my pansies or they really want those acorns planted along my walkway.

DLPChangedCover

I did change the front cover a bit. I put a bit of lace above Manifesto. I have a ton of Pima flowers (are they still all the rage) so I put a few on the cover and I changed Fearless a bit, making it a bit lighter and added some color. I lightened up the tri-design and added some runner tape.

I hope you enjoyed!
